Weekend #25 – #31

Weekend #25 – #27

I wasn’t able to go see Brian until Friday evening. I had a doctor’s appointment Friday afternoon in Chapel Hill first, because I wasn’t feeling well earlier in the week, but everything is fine.

We hung out at the house Friday, then Saturday we hung out with Kidd at ECW again and watched the play-offs.

Sunday we went to get ice cream with Brian’s parents, and I drove back afterward.

Weekend #26 / Brian’s Birthday

Brian came into town Friday, and we rented Looper and The Watch.

Saturday, we hit up Tyler’s Taproom, ate gourmet burgers Auntie got from Fresh Market, and watched The Watch.

Sunday, we ate at Carolina Brewery, and got his car washed. Brian stayed the night and drove back the next morning.

Weekend #27 / Mother-in-law’s Birthday

I spent the weekend in Winston-Salem.

Weekend #28 – #30

Brian and I weren’t able to visit each other these weekends. :(

Weekend #31

I only had a half day left at the office on Friday, and afterward I drove in to see Brian. We ordered pizza and watched bad TV, haha. Saturday we were supposed to change the brake pads on his car, but it was just too cold so we opted for Monte Del Rey and spending time together. Sunday we went to King’s Crab Shack downtown which was awesome! That place is very chill, and the food was pretty good. I really didn’t want to leave so I drove into work Monday morning.

Weekend #21 – 24

Yet another summarized recap of our weekends together.. I am so anxious for Brian and I to find a more permanent place (I can’t wait to have an actual studio space!) and we are finally together again. I’ve always wanted to do so many things, and I can see my opportunities growing nearer and nearer and I’m just so excited.

Weekend #21

For our 21st weekend apart, Brian and I did not get to see each other. :( Friday, I did a little work, stopped by Michael’s, and Sunday I spent the day shopping around town with my Auntie Dot. We had brunch at Cracker Barrel (yum!), then went by Target, TJ Maxx and Southern Season.

Weekend #22

The Wednesday before the weekend my office had our 70’s Holiday Party, haha. I brought cupcakes and we line danced until it was over. Some random shots of me thanks to our very talented photographer.

70s

I was able to drive into Winston-Salem on Thursday, and Brian and I went to eat at East Coast Wings. Friday we ate at Monte Del Rey, then rented MIB 3 and Lincoln the Vampire Hunter. Saturday we went by East Coast Wings again then rented Lawless and The Amazing Spiderman. Sunday, I made pigs in a blanket to bring to the office the next day for our week-long holiday potluck.

Weekend #23

On the Monday before the weekend, my office had our holiday luncheon at 18 Seaboard in Raleigh. I had some sort of shrimp salad concoction, and it was okay, but it didn’t make me want to return. (Last year we went to The Pit – now that place is yummy!) When I got home, I finished getting everyone’s presents together. I made everyone in my unit a paper stocking ornament with their first initial, wrote out some cards, and was able to get (mostly) everyone’s favorite candy to include with their stocking. The stockings came out so cute, but I forgot to take a picture of the finished product! Darn.

After work on Tuesday, I started my holiday vacation, and drove to WInston-Salem immediately after I left the office. I was so excited. I have been looking forward to a break for so long – I am burnt out. Brian brought me Qdoba for dinner, and then I made pigs in a blanket for him to bring to his coworkers the next day. Wednesday, I had breakfast with Brian at IHOP, then tested out my early Christmas present from Brian – my first DSLR camera! YAY! Here’s our dog, Charlie, modeling for me.

Thursday and Friday – nothing really. Brian has been working and studying a lot, poor guy. :/ Saturday, ate lunch with his parents at Macaroni Grill then got tickets to The Hobbit. That night my mother-in-law and I started decorating the tree, then we left for the movies, came home and finished decorating the tree and set up the nativity set. Sunday I took Brian to Longhorn for dinner, and had to go to Chapel Hill for the night, but I was back early Christmas morning.

Weekend #24

Friday my mother-in-law and I went to Target and I bought some awesome Christmas stuff for next year – wrapping paper, ornaments and garlands. I am already excited for Christmas 2013! I’m so happy to see that all the Neiman Marcus for Target Collection has gone to clearance, because I am so in love with Jason Wu. Remember his first collaboration with Target last February? Wow. I made sure to buy a few of his ornaments. I just love Target, especially their home decor. Again, I can’t wait till Brian and I find a place.

Saturday Brian and I hung out with his buddy Kidd. We ate at ECW and saw Les Misérables. As expected, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Anne Hathaway singing “A Dream I Dreamed” was even more beautiful than I expected – and I had high expectations. Us and Kidd met our friends Matt and Liz later that night, and had dinner at Arigato. Afterward we headed to Fox and the Hound to watch the UFC fight.

Sunday night we all got together again, this time to go bowling for Liz’s birthday. Monday, Brian and I ate at Monte Del Rey. Tuesday I was back in Chapel Hill where I shopped more of Target’s after Christmas sales with Auntie. I got more Christmas decor / supplies (picture frame, bows, and ornaments), the Proenza Schouler iPad sleeve, and a new sweater that I wish I could get a decent picture of, but it just gets too dark by the time I get off work.

Weekend #20

This past weekend I was able to drive into Winston-Salem on Thursday since I had Friday off due to working longer days earlier in the week. It’s worth it when it means more time to be with Brian.

Friday

When he took his lunch, I picked him up at his building and we went to Hibachi.

Saturday

We got to spend some much needed time together after such a stressful week. Work was just long for me, but that’s nothing new, but Brian took his first securities exam on Thursday. He did awesome by the way, and I’m super proud of him. He’ll be taking the next series exam soon, either this month or in January. Brian’s mom and I also made this chocolate chip peanut butter pie, and it turned out amazing!

Sunday

Brian and I (well, mostly me and Brian was just polite about it, haha) did some shopping. We stopped by JoS. A. Bank, Target, and Michaels. We ate at East Coast Wings, then met his folks at Mayberry for some ice cream. Afterward, my mother-in-law and I went to the church and made advent wreaths. When we got home we made cookies again, and Brian and I ended the night by watching The Walking Dead physically together for the first time in weeks.

Such a good weekend.

Weekend #12 – 19 + Our First Thanksgiving as Mr. and Mrs.

I am so INCREDIBLY overdue for a Weekenders post, it is shameful. I’ll shorten as much as I can, but I don’t want to not post them since my memories with Brian are always the highlights of my day. In summary I will just say this: I love my husband. I love our little adventures and when we’re just boring old farts together. I miss the little things. The distance is weighing on us both, and it just gets harder, not easier. I hope we can find a house sooner than we planned. If I only get one gift this year (or next year, or the year after that), that’s all I want.

Weekend #12

Life has been so busy lately, but it’s all been a nice adventure. I drove to Winston-Salem Thursday evening this week, and worked remotely the next day. After I got off, I took Brian’s car to the shop, went shopping for a few things, and once Brian came home we rented movies and got ice cream. Saturday. We hung out with our friend Schultz and his girl, then had spaghetti for dinner at the house. Sunday. We took a walk, which I love doing, then we ate at an Italian restaurant. I spent the night and drove straight into work Monday morning.

Weekend #13

I drove in Thursday night after making a few stops to Target and A.C. Moore in Greensboro for some art supplies, etc. Friday. Brian and I went to the driving range. Saturday. Brian went golfing and I did some exploring / window shopping around town. That night we did a mini bar hop from Full Moon to Big Shotz. Sunday. A pizza and movies night!

As for “work” outside the office – I have been so inspired lately. I posted to Facebook today about my plans for the blog..

Upcoming :: The [With Great Heart] website / brand will be undergoing a makeover / new design to help make it more organized, easier to navigate and more visually appealing. Est. launch date: January 2013. Stay tuned!

I am just really looking forward to the future.. particularly whenever Mr. Smith and I finally move into our first house, and I can create a studio of my own!

Weekend #13.5 + 14

This work week Brian and I were on the road. It was the greatest. Tuesday and Wednesday night in Goldsboro, then Thursday and Friday in Raleigh.

Saturday we drove back in to Chapel Hill. We spent Sunday night watching The Walking Dead over the phone together, something we’ve started to do with a lot of our shows.

Weekend #15

I drove in Thursday then worked remotely the next day while Brian was at work. We ate dinner with his family, then Saturday night we had dinner just the two of us, and I drove back Sunday. This weekend was one of the saddest goodbyes.

Weekend #16

This was the weekend I went to WordCamp (see my recap here) so Brian spent the weekend with me in Raleigh and Chapel Hill. For the first time in the longest time we ate together at Los Tres Magueyes in Cary after Brian picked me up from the conference on Saturday. I miss the days when we were together in Cary.

Weekend #17

Friday. We just spent the day relaxing inside. Saturday. We stopped for food, went to the Cary library, went to Los Tres Magueyes, then went to see SkyFall, which we both really liked, especially the opening. Sunday. We went to Tyler’s Taproom, and talked about how we are more determined than ever to build our future.

Weekend #18

Thursday. I was ecstatic to see Brian. Friday. We ate dinner at the Olive Garden where we ran into his cousin, Maggie, and then we went to see Lincoln, which was slow, but good. I’ve started reading The Walking Dead Compendium 1, too. Brian and I are huge fans of the show. Saturday. We went for a long drive looking at gorgeous houses. The weather was beautiful. We came home and ate lamb stew and then I made cookies from scratch with my mother-in-law. Sunday. We had breakfast at Cracker Barrel, and seeing all the Christmas decorations almost made me want to cry, because I won’t be decorating a place of our own this year.

Weekend #19 + Our First Thanksgiving as Mr. and Mrs.

This was a Thanksgiving for firsts – the first time we spent Thanksgiving together with his family, and our first Thanksgiving as husband and wife. It was a bit of chaos with his family, but still awesome. I’m sad we didn’t get a picture together, but it’s okay. I’m just glad to have these memories.

Wednesday, I had lunch with my mother-in-law, Thursday, of course, was Thanksgiving, and Friday, my mother-in-law and I did a little running around, but not much. I only bought some accessories from The Loft which was insanely packed for Black Friday.

So Brian has been studying for his securities license all these months so that he can sell investments, and he is taking the exam soon. He has been working so hard, and I can see the stress and pressure weighing on him. I wish I were around during the week to take care of him. We got a little emotional talking on the phone last night. We are both so close to shelving the house thing and just getting an apartment so we can just be together now.. but we just have to make it a little longer.
